BE trailer license

The trailer license is obtained with an automatic car, which simplifies the training process.

The trailer license (BE license) is no longer automatically issued to individuals who obtain a car license (category B).

A Category B license allows you to tow a combination of vehicles with atotal weight(see vehicle registration certificate) not exceeding 3,500 kg without needing a BE license.

Holders of a category B license may tow a combination of vehicles consisting of a category B tractor vehicle and a trailer under two conditions:

  • The total weight of the assembly must not exceed 3500 kg.
  • The total weight of the trailer must not exceed 750 kg.

In all other cases, a BE category driver's license is required.

It authorizes the driving of vehicle combinations in category DE and subcategories C1E and D1E, if the driver holds the driver's license required for the towing vehicle.

Our trailer has an unloaded weight of 1140kg and a total weight of 3500kg.

The dimensions of the trailer are: length 5.25 m, width 2.30 m, and height 2.60 m.

The assembly has a length of 10m and an effective weight of 3038kg.

Here are a few examples: first, only take into account the total weight listed on the registration certificate of the towing vehicle, trailer, or caravan.

PT = total weight
VT = towing vehicle
R or C = trailer or caravan

Situation 1:VT PT 3000kg.R PT 600kg = total PT 3600kg = BE license not required (trailer less than 750kg total weight)

Situation No. 4: VT PT 2001 kg RPT 1500 kg = total PT 3501 kg = BE license required

Speed limits

The speed of road trains (vehicles with trailers) is limited to 80 km/h or even 100 km/h depending on the trailer or caravan, mainly for BE licenses.

Including on highways and semi-highways.

Maneuvers required for the exam
